The old villages
"La Gianna" farmhouse is located in Tuscany on the hills
between Viareggio and Lucca in an ancient village called Nocchi
in the province of Camaiore.
Reknown in the past as a summer stay for wealthy families, Nocchi
finds its origin in the Middle Ages, as it was lying on the "Via
Francigena" that was the only way for pilgrims from Northern Europe
to reach Rome, centuries after the Roman Empire's decadence. In the
village there are beautiful XVII century villahouses whose gardens
are rich in very old camellia trees. As a matter of fact Nocchi lies
right in the area of Lucchesia where camellias have been grown for
centuries. Close to Nocchi there are villages that
offer lovely romanic churches, beautiful narrow streets and good
restaurants. We mention some of them:
Camaiore, Pietrasanta, La
Pieve, Greppolungo,
Monteggiori with famous Rotaio Castle,
La Culla, Santa Lucia,
Vado, Casoli, Pedona, Torcigliano, Colonnata, Peralla and his
castle.
